DPDP Act compliance for NGOs: know where you stand

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act makes the Board and management accountable for personal data, not just IT. NGOs hold a great deal of it: beneficiaries, donors, staff and volunteers. The IGMA™ DPDP Compliance Assessment Toolkit gives you a scored, evidence-based view of your position and the specific gaps to close.

Why NGOs need to act now

The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 were notified on 14 November 2025, with most obligations phased in over the following 18 months. That leaves limited time to put consent, notice, security, breach-response and grievance processes in place.

Many NGOs collect sensitive personal data every day: beneficiary records, children's information, health data, donor details and staff files. Yet few have a structured way to show, if a regulator, funder or Board asks, that it is handled lawfully. This toolkit gives you that baseline.

Frequently asked questions

Does the DPDP Act apply to NGOs?

The Act applies to organisations that process digital personal data in India, and it does not exempt nonprofits as a class. NGOs should take specific legal advice on how particular provisions and timelines apply to them.

Is this a substitute for legal advice?

No. It is a management self-assessment tool that helps you see gaps and organise evidence. It is not legal advice.

What format is the toolkit, and what do I need to run it?

An automated Excel workbook. You answer the questions and the workbook calculates the scores, dashboards and outputs.

What does the licence cover?

A single-organisation, perpetual licence for a one-time payment. Free v1.x updates are included. Consultants who want to use a toolkit with several client organisations should email casunilkumarfca@gmail.com about a separate consultant licence.

Is support included?

Yes, for using the toolkit. Email support replies within 2 business days. Support covers how to use the workbook; it is not legal, regulatory or governance advice.

Can I get a refund?

Because the toolkits are instant digital downloads, all sales are final once the file is delivered. If a file is faulty, will not open, or does not work as described, email casunilkumarfca@gmail.com within 14 days of purchase and it will be fixed or replaced free of charge.
