An NGO governance assessment tool your Board can act on

The IGMA™ Institutional Governance Maturity Assessment Toolkit scores your whole organisation — Board, finance, risk, people, operations, data and stakeholder trust — against a five-level maturity scale, and turns the result into a Board-ready dashboard and a prioritised action plan.

IGMA™ Institutional Governance Maturity Assessment Toolkit: 60 questions, 646 criteria, 8 governance pillars, automated dashboards, action tracker and year-on-year maturity tracking
What the toolkit includes: maturity dashboard, governance heat map and Board executive summary (illustration).

Why most governance reviews miss the real picture

Most governance reviews stop at "do you have a policy?" A policy on file says little about whether it is followed, owned or evidenced. That gap usually surfaces only after a funder audit, a leadership transition or a compliance notice.

IGMA™ asks a different question: what does the evidence support? Each of the 60 questions is broken into Yes/No criteria tied to a maturity level, so the score reflects what the organisation can demonstrate, not what leadership believes. The gap between the two is often the most useful finding.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an assessment take?

It depends on the route. The Concise route suits a single workshop. The Detailed route takes longer because each answer should be backed by evidence; most organisations spread it across a few working sessions with the relevant managers.

Is it only for Indian organisations?

No. The institutional toolkit is designed for NGOs, foundations and trusts in any country. The FCRA and DPDP toolkits are the India-specific ones.

How is the score calculated?

Each question has Yes/No criteria mapped to maturity levels. The workbook scores what the evidence supports on a 1.0–5.0 scale and maps it to L1–L5.

What format is the toolkit, and what do I need to run it?

An automated Excel workbook. You answer the questions and the workbook calculates the scores, dashboards and outputs.

What does the licence cover?

A single-organisation, perpetual licence for a one-time payment. Free v1.x updates are included. Consultants who want to use a toolkit with several client organisations should email casunilkumarfca@gmail.com about a separate consultant licence.

Is support included?

Yes, for using the toolkit. Email support replies within 2 business days. Support covers how to use the workbook; it is not legal, regulatory or governance advice.

Can I get a refund?

Because the toolkits are instant digital downloads, all sales are final once the file is delivered. If a file is faulty, will not open, or does not work as described, email casunilkumarfca@gmail.com within 14 days of purchase and it will be fixed or replaced free of charge.
